Calorie and protein figures are my own estimates, good enough for planning a food bag and not meant as precise nutrition data.

Ingredients

Stuffing mix 2 cups
Chicken pouch 1 (7 oz)
Gravy packet 1
Powdered butter 2 tbsp
Craisins 2 tbsp
Dehydrated soup vegetables 4 tbsp

Method

  1. Bring 180 ml of water to a boil in your cooking pot.
  2. Add the stuffing mix, powdered butter, craisins, and dehydrated vegetables. Stir well.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let it sit for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the stuffing softens and absorbs the liquid.
  4. Open the chicken pouch and dump it in. Stir to heat through, about 2 minutes.
  5. Mix in the gravy packet. Stir until it thickens and coats the stuffing.

Stuffing mix rehydrates fast and soaks up gravy without turning to mush. Powdered butter carries calories without weight, and the gravy packet thickens the whole thing into something warm and solid.

Shelf-stable chicken pouch is ready-to-go protein. Craisins add sweetness and chew without water weight. A plate of hot stuffing and gravy on the trail is the kind of straightforward, filling dinner that makes sense after a long day.

Packing

Combine the stuffing mix, powdered butter, craisins, and dehydrated vegetables in a resealable bag at home. Pack the chicken pouch and gravy packet separately.

Variations

  • Raisins or dried cranberries substitute for craisins without changing the result.
  • A handful of dehydrated mushrooms adds earthiness and depth to the gravy.
