Ingredients
| Your favorite beverage, in powder or bag form | 1 packet | cocoa, coffee, tea, cider, broth, drink mix |
|---|---|---|
| Water | 350 ml |
Method
- Bring 350 ml of water to a boil in the pot.
- Pull it off the heat. Bagged tea and instant coffee go in the mug; powders go straight in the pot so they dissolve instead of clumping at the bottom.
- Pour, stir, and let it sit a minute. Water off a hard boil will scald you and it wrecks tea besides.
- Rinse the pot while it is still warm. Sugar sets like glue once it cools.
There is no dish here to reproduce. The source was a gear roundup from a trade show, and the only edible thing in it was a line about your favorite beverage, so that is what this is: the honest floor of camp cooking, written down.
It still earns a page. Hot water is the most useful thing a stove makes, and the difference between a good mug and a bad one is technique, not ingredients. Dissolve powders in the pot, not the mug. Let the boil settle before it hits tea. And carry a spare packet, because the one night you want it is the night you are out.
Dietary tags are left empty on purpose. The ingredient is whatever you chose, and this recipe cannot make a claim about it.
Packing
Packets ride in a small zip bag with the stove kit so you never dig for them in the dark. Count one per morning and one per cold night, then add one.
Variations
- A spoonful of powdered milk or coconut milk powder turns coffee or cocoa into something with body and another 60 calories.
- Instant broth instead of a sweet mix is the better call when you are cold and already had enough sugar.
- In winter, make it in the pot and drink from the pot. A mug loses heat faster than you can drink.
