Calorie and protein figures are my own estimates, good enough for planning a food bag and not meant as precise nutrition data.

Ingredients

Freeze-dried noodles 1 cup
Freeze-dried chicken 1/2 cup
Freeze-dried peas 1/4 cup
Freeze-dried mozzarella 1/4 cup
Dried tomato 2 Tbsp
Dried onion 1 Tbsp
Chicken gravy mix 2 Tbsp
Olive oil 1 Tbsp

Method

  1. Boil 350 ml water in a small pot with the olive oil.
  2. Pour in all the freeze-dried ingredients and stir well.
  3. Cover and remove from heat. Wait 10 minutes for everything to hydrate.
  4. Stir once more and eat from the pot.

Freeze-dried chicken and vegetables rehydrate while the noodles cook in the same pot of boiling water. The gravy mix both seasons and thickens everything as it hydrates. Mozzarella disappears into the sauce instead of staying visible.

Freeze-dried chicken is protein with minimal water weight—a handful delivers thirty grams. The gravy mix is fat and seasoning concentrated into powder. This is built for weight counting.

Packing

Mix all dried ingredients into a quart freezer bag at home. Pack the olive oil separately in a dropper bottle or small packet to keep the bag dry.

Variations

  • Use the FBC method: pour the freezer bag contents into an insulated pouch, add 350 ml of boiling water, seal, and wait 15 minutes. No pot needed.
  • Substitute fresh cheese cubes for the freeze-dried mozzarella if you have a cooler.
  • Use any combination of freeze-dried proteins and vegetables in the same proportions.
