Ingredients
| Whole milk powder | 1/3 cup | whole, not nonfat, for the fat |
|---|---|---|
| Whey or collagen protein powder | 1 scoop | vanilla or unflavored |
| Banana chips or freeze-dried banana | 1/4 cup | crushed to powder if you want it smooth |
| Maple sugar | 2 tbsp | granulated, so it travels; syrup leaks |
| Coconut oil powder or milk powder | 1 tbsp | |
| Vanilla powder | 1/4 tsp | |
| Ground nutmeg | a pinch | |
| Salt | a pinch |
Method
- Dump the premixed bag into a wide-mouth bottle.
- Add 350 ml of cold water. Cap it and shake hard for twenty seconds.
- Let it sit two minutes so the milk powder finishes dissolving, then shake again.
- Drink it straight from the bottle. Rinse with a swallow of water and drink that too.
The source version runs on kefir, a raw egg yolk, and a blender, none of which survive a trip. What actually makes eggnog taste like eggnog is fat, sugar, vanilla, and nutmeg, so this keeps those and gets the body from whole milk powder and protein powder instead of yolk. Nothing here needs a fridge or a blade.
Maple sugar over maple syrup matters. Syrup is water weight and it finds a way out of any bottle you carry it in. The two-minute rest is not optional either: milk powder shaken once is gritty, shaken twice with a pause between is not.
Packing
One bag per serving, mixed at home. Powdered milk clumps if it gets damp, so double-bag it in wet weather.
Variations
- Stir in a teaspoon of instant coffee for a nutmeg latte.
- Freeze-dried banana instead of chips blends smoother and weighs less.
- Swap the milk powder for coconut milk powder to make it dairy-free.
