Hot Tang

Orange drink powder in boiling water. Absurd, and the best thing going at fifteen degrees.

Ingredients

Tang or similar orange drink powder 3 tbsp

Method

  1. Boil about 350 ml of water.
  2. Stir the powder in until it dissolves.

Nobody drinks Tang at home. In a cold camp it is sugar, vitamin C, and a reason to finish a litre of water you would otherwise leave in the bottle, which is the actual job.

An ounce of powder per day is nothing to carry and it makes treated water taste like something other than treated water.

Packing

Portion it into snack bags at home, one per morning, so you are not digging a scoop out of a tub with cold hands.

Variations

  • A cinnamon stick or a few cloves in the mug turns it into something closer to mulled cider.
  • Half a portion stirred into hot chocolate is better than it has any right to be.
