Ingredients
| Instant coffee | 1 packet or 1 tbsp | specialty roasters make premium instant that tastes like real coffee |
|---|
Method
- Boil 250 ml of water in your pot.
- Stir the instant coffee into your cup.
- Pour the hot water over the coffee and stir.
- Drink it while it's hot.
Instant coffee kills the thermos. You carry nothing all day, then brew fresh coffee the moment you stop. A good instant coffee from a specialty roaster tastes nothing like the industrial powders from years past. The weight is negligible and the caffeine wake-up happens when you actually want it.
Buy quality instant before you leave. Cheap instant tastes hollow and stale. Premium costs more per serving but you use less of it, and the difference matters after a long day. Black is fastest and lightest. If you need milk, powdered coconut milk adds almost nothing and transforms the taste.
Packing
One instant coffee packet weighs almost nothing. Keep it in a small bag so it does not get crushed.
Variations
- Add instant milk powder or powdered coconut milk for creamier coffee.
- A pinch of cinnamon or cocoa powder changes the flavor.
- Instant coffee stirred into cold water the night before makes a cold brew for hot days.
