Ingredients
| Flour tortilla | 1 large | flour tortillas survive a pack, corn ones do not |
|---|---|---|
| Peanut butter | 3 tbsp | single-serve squeeze packets keep it clean |
| Honey | 1 tbsp | or a squeeze packet |
| Salt | a pinch |
Method
- Lay the tortilla on its own wrapper so you are not fighting the dirt.
- Squeeze the peanut butter down the middle and spread it with the back of your spoon.
- Drizzle the honey, add the pinch of salt, roll it, eat it.
- Fold the bottom before the first bite unless you want it on your shoes.
At roughly 145 calories per ounce this beats almost every purpose-built energy bar, costs about a dollar, and needs no water. On a day hike it is lunch. On a thru-hike it is what you eat while walking because stopping costs daylight.
Packing
Tortillas ride flat against the back panel of the pack. Anywhere else and they arrive as a crumbled disc.
Variations
- Banana slices while you still have them, which is day one.
- Nutella in place of honey if you want dessert to happen at noon.
