Ingredients
| Smoked turkey breast | 2.5 oz | pre-made and vacuum-sealed or in a ziplock |
|---|---|---|
| Instant white rice | 3/4 cup | uncooked |
| Chicken bouillon cube | 1 | |
| Black pepper | 1/4 tsp | |
| Dried garlic | 1/8 tsp | granulated or powder |
| Olive oil | 1 tbsp | carried in a small dropper bottle |
Method
- Boil 350 ml of water.
- Stir in the rice and bouillon cube, then cover and remove from heat.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes until the rice absorbs the water.
- Fluff with a spoon and break the smoked turkey into bite-sized pieces directly into the pot.
- Stir in the black pepper, garlic, and olive oil. Eat while hot.
Smoked turkey breast is shelf-stable protein that arrives at camp already cooked and seasoned. The work here is just breaking it into pieces and mixing it into warm rice. The bouillon cube and measured water means the rice cooks in one step without simmering or stirring—this is pure efficiency for tired legs.
The turkey carries enough fat from smoking that you might skip the oil if you’re light on weight, but it’s there if your calories are running short. The black pepper and garlic echo the brining spices from the smoking process. If you made the turkey yourself, allspice brings back that exact flavor.
Packing
Bring the smoked turkey in a vacuum bag or ziplock. The rice, bouillon cube, and dried seasonings go together in a single freezer bag. The oil travels in its own small dropper bottle.
Variations
- Add 1/8 teaspoon of allspice if you smoked the turkey yourself at home.
- Stir in dehydrated vegetables if you're carrying them for color and texture.
